Filing for an Extension
So, yeah, I'm not going to make it.
I'd given myself a deadline of May 30th to finish my first draft of WAITING FOR THE SUN.
Not happening, although not for lack of trying. It's coming along. It is. I've made some serious decisions about plot, I've made a list of scenes I need to write. Tonight I wrote nearly 2,000 words.
But this is a tough story to write. That plus the fact that I am an expert at procrastination (what do you think I'm doing right now?!) plus a mini-vacation with my family to the North Shore, where I soaked up plenty of inspiration but didn't open the laptop once.... not a very pleasant equation.
So I'm filing for an extension on that deadline, but I'm not going to put down a specific date.
This story is too important to mess up, so I'm going to take as much time as I need to tell it right.

You didn't meet your original goal, but it's still great to have goals! You'll get it to where you want it, it'll just take a little longer than expected, and that's okay. :)
ReplyDeleteI had planned on being ready to query my current WiP sometime this summer, but I'm thinking that goal's a little unrealistic at this point. Ah well. It'll happen when it happens, right? :)
Thanks for your encouragement, Jaime! I think it's okay to hold off on your query until you feel truly ready. I sort of feel like I queried CLOUD 9 too soon - it's a better book now but I've wasted some queries, you know? If you're looking for fresh eyes to provide feedback on your WiP, I'd be happy to. :)
DeleteI think it's great of you to ask for an extension to make the book better, if you rushed it, there's no telling where the story might end up.
