What's Up Wednesday: What I Did On My Summer Vacation Edition
I'm catching the What's Up Wednesday hot air balloon from the blogs of Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk. Go to Jaime's blog to add your link and make the rounds to get to know other bloggers!
After a somewhat lengthy and productive stint in the Writing Cave, I have emerged and hope to get back to a regular posting schedule.
WHAT I'M READING
Somehow I managed to read several books over the last few weeks while in the throes of major revision work. The highlights: AMY & ROGER'S EPIC DETOUR by Morgan Matson (LOVE!) and THE LAST LETTER FROM YOUR LOVER by JoJo Moyes. London in the 60s? Yes, please. I'm currently reading FIN & LADY by Cathleen Schine. NYC and Capri in the 60s? Yes, please.
WHAT I'M WRITING
I am happy to report that I have completed my latest round of revisions on WAITING FOR THE SUN. We're on a break.
In the meantime, I've been plunking away at the shiny new idea I mentioned in my last post - working title KEYS. (The word, not a four-letter acronym.) It's very loosely based on a trip to Florida during which I celebrated my golden birthday and puked over the side of a boat during a doomed snorkeling expedition. I love my MC. She's sassy and spunky and a lot of fun to write so far.
Join me for a twitter WORD SPRINT via YA Buccaneers this Thursday the 22nd at 8 pm CDT. Mention @YABuccaneers and #YABWordSprint!
Ready. Set. Write! is winding down and I'm bummed... but I have a sneaking suspicion that those nightly twitter writing parties will continue anyway. Am I right, ladies? (Please say yes. I need you.)
WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO
Vacation. We spent a wonderful week with family at a cabin on Lake Placid in Hayward, WI. This was the view from my writing spot on the deck.
WFTS takes place in a resort town - this was a perfect setting to finish up revisions - full of inspiration.
I missed out on a few activities because of revisions, but overall - it was an awesome week.
Summer is winding down and we're preparing for school to start. Both kids go to new schools this year. Tomorrow Toad has Middle School Orientation. Middle school. How did that happen?
Even though summer is coming to an end, the kids and I are still LOVING Teen Beach Movie, especially the soundtrack. Birdy thinks it's the best movie ever made. I wouldn't go that far, but I do love beach movies from the 60s and Teen Beach Movie delivers. Get your shoop-shoop on and take a listen. Super catchy.
WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW
All of the above.
What's up with you this fine summer day?
OH - Check back here on Friday for an interview with Minnesota author Lizzy Charles, whose YA novel EFFORTLESS WITH YOU released last week from Swoon Romance.

Ohhhhh AMY & ROGER'S EPIC DETOUR was one of my favorite reads. Love that book! Well really I love all books by Morgan Matson.:)
ReplyDeleteAnd YAY for finishing this round of revisions, I have a bit more time so if you want an extra pair of eyes later let me know (and you know I'm just up to receive the manuscript and read it for my own pleasure. Your book is simply AMAZING!)
Glad you enjoyed a nice vacation!
EPIC DETOUR is next up on my reading list and I have a feeling I will LOVE it too. Also, I hope those twitter parties continue too! Although, my writing at night will be limited to about once a week. Okay, though. I plan to write a lot during the day this year. VERY excited!
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on finishing that round of revisions! Must watch TEEN BEACH MOVIE!!! That's on the must-do list this week!
I loved Teen Beach Movie. I'm glad I'm not the only one. There's something about DCOMs that warms my heart. Especially the musicals. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYes, I hope Twitter parties continue, too!
ReplyDeleteI started watching Teen Beach Movie the other day, but my husband grumbled so much, I couldn't hear anything. I finally gave the big baby the remote back :)
I have that JoJo Moyes book on my TBR-list, I'd almost forgotten about it. *bumps up*
Yay for finishing your round of revisions!
Sounds like a great summer. Nothing like a great view from a new writing spot to get the creative juices flowing.
ReplyDeleteMy oldest LOVES Teen Beach Movie. Last week at a fam reunion, a couple of her cousins performed the "I Can't Stop Singing" song with all the exact dance moves. It was so cute!
ReplyDeleteGood luck with your SNI!
Good luck with your WIP.
ReplyDeleteWay to go, finishing your revision, Sara! That must be an amazing feeling!
ReplyDeleteI'm currently reading SECOND CHANCE SUMMER by Morgan Matson. I'm loving it, and already looking forward to picking up AMY & ROGER. I've heard such awesome things about that one!
Love the photo from your lakeside getaway. What a beautiful spot to vacation!
I'm with you, Sara, the Twitter writing parties are great motivators, as well as loads of fun! I hope they continue well into the fall and winter. :)
ReplyDeleteI am so happy to hear you completed your revisions and are taking a break from that project. Your new one sounds hilarious!
My son watches Disney Channel religiously. I saw so many previews for Teen Beach Movie I feel like I watched it. The video you posted is pretty cute. I would check it out but never openly admit to that (and you can't prove anything!).
You finished your revisions!!! *cheers* That's awesome, Sara!! Congrats! :) And I loved your tweets/photos from your vacation. Looks like a beautiful place to write. Good luck with the new project (sassy and spunky MCs are my favorite)! :)
ReplyDeleteCongrats on finishing your revision!!
ReplyDeleteI loved AMY & ROGER'S EPIC DETOUR. Such a great book.
Love that photo. Glad to hear you enjoyed your vacation!
I can't wait to read Amy & Roger's Epic Detour. It's near the top of my TBR pile so hopefully soon! Congrats on finishing your revision.
