YAB SWB Update: Playlist Edition

Here's a super quick YAB Spring Writing Bootcamp Update - there's not much to report and I've got some other cool stuff to share!

I had hoped to complete this round of revisions on KEYS in order to be able to send it out to critique partners May 1. That is NOT going to happen, and I'm okay with that. SP Critique & Editing Services has had a very busy couple of weeks and I'm very happy about that! I feel so lucky to be able to help other writers and do something that I love. I'm so grateful for my clients.

So, to get back on track this week, here are my goals for this week:
  • Dive into my next client edit.
  • Continue to work on KEYS revisions - write every day.
  • Work on the short story that I started last week, which is kind of creepy and dark. I've already written the last line: "I told you not to snoop around."
  • Read every day.
  • Fold laundry. (lame, I know, but maybe if I write it here, I won't put it off for days.)
AND!

#TeamDefiance has been working hard these last few weeks, very busy with writing and life. I asked the team what music they've been listening to lately or inspires their current WIPs. I've put together a playlist:

Team Defiance by Sara Biren on Grooveshark

The songs:

Tif: Mirrors by JT, Give Your Heart a Break by Demi Lovato, Arms by Christina Perri, Ho Hey by the Lumineers

Alison: Those Magic Changes from Grease, Dude (Looks Like a Lady) by Aerosmith, Let's Hear it for the Boy by Deniece Williams, Panama by Van Halen, Still Into You by Paramore

Courtney (our newest member!): Sail by AWOLNATION, Blackbird's Song by Lee DeWyze, All These Things That I've Done by The Killers, Burn by Ellie Goulding, and I Said Hey by Macklemore

Adrianne: Retreat! by Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings and In My Bed by Amy Winehouse

Liz: All I Want by Kodaline, Take Me to Church by Hozier, Do I Want to Know? by Arctic Monkeys, and Another Love by Tom Odell

Sara: Come a Little Closer by Cage the Elephant, Head Full of Doubt/Road Full of Promise by the Avett Brothers, I'm Still Here by Vertical Horizon, Find a Way by Safetysuit, Lanterns by Birds of Tokyo

Tracey has been listening to the entire Man of Steel soundtrack, which can be found here.

Here's Helen's take on music and writing:
For me, I listen to anything. That is quite literal. I put on Pandora and pick out any station I feel like at the time (It's been mostly Paramore, Within Temptation, Delain and Fireflight, but sometimes I listen to Nural, Utada or Ayumi Hamasaki.)
Mostly, I don't pay much attention to the music I am listening to while I write, so it is just background noise. Sometimes, I don't listen to anything (usually when I'm not particularly inspired or am working on a tough spot that I haven't decided where it's going).

Patrice had this to say:
I actually don't listen to music while writing. I love the silence of my fingers tapping on the keys or pen scratching on paper. However, I usually make playlists for books whenever I'm stuck writing or procrastinating. The story I'm working on is an Urban Fantasy set in New Orleans. I've been listening to a lot of NOLA jazz music via Spotify. Actually I wrote one of the scenes, which takes place in a jazz club, while listening to a bit of NOLA jazz music so I suppose that's what I'd add.

How about you? How did you do with your goals for the last week? What do you listen to when you write?
