April Reads :: A Slow Month

April was a brutal month for reading for me.

You see, I got a bit hung up on a book that didn't meet my expectations. It took days for me to finish, and then I got sick, and I couldn't do anything but watch Anne of Green Gables and play 1010! on my phone.

It happens.

But I wrapped up the month with the opposite experience - it took me a couple of weeks to read BONE GAP by Laura Ruby, mostly because I wanted to savor the luscious, rich writing and because I found it rather disturbing. I just finished it and am still processing, so will write about it in more detail next month.

Here are my four (four!) books for April, one of which is really a too-short novella:

BETTER THAN PERFECT by Melissa Kantor
THE WRONG SIDE OF RIGHT by Jenn Marie Thorne
THESE GENTLE WOUNDS by Helene Dunbar
HAPPY AGAIN by Jennifer E. Smith

My favorite April read was THE WRONG SIDE OF RIGHT - refreshing and fast-paced, about a girl who finds herself with a new family and a new role, right smack in the middle of a presidential campaign. The political junkie in me was thrilled.

What was your favorite read in April?
