Ready, Set, WRITE! :: 2015 Edition

Happy June! Happy Summer!

It's time once again for one of my favorite writing intensives, Ready. Set. WRITE!, hosted by Alison MillerKaty UppermanErin Funk, Elodie Nowodazkij, and Jaime Morrow. (More details can be found on their websites.)

Participating in RSW is a great way to set and work toward goals, get to know other writers, and help hold one another accountable.

This year, update posts will be on Mondays and will follow these headings:

1.  How I did on last week’s goals
2.  My goal(s) for this week
3.  A favorite line from my story OR one word/phrase that sums up what I wrote/revised
4.  The biggest challenge I faced this week (ex. finding time to write)
5.  Something I love about my WiP

Today's post is all about setting initial goals.

I just "completed" the YA Buccaneers Spring Writing Bootcamp, but I didn't do so well. I'm committed to making RSW a success again this year.

MY OVERALL GOALS:
  • Complete current round of revisions for THE LAST THING YOU SAID (soon!)
  • Complete revisions for THE MANUSCRIPT FORMERLY KNOWN AS KEYS (by the end of summer)
  • Get outside! The weather is finally nice in Minnesota (knock on wood), so I hope to be able to write and read and play outside a lot. We just spent a couple of days in my most favorite place, Duluth. We braved the "lake breeze" to search for agates on Brighton Beach and climbed to the top of Enger Tower.
  • Complete the YA Buccaneers Summer Reading Challenge.

THIS WEEK'S GOALS:
  • Finish revisions on THE LAST THING YOU SAID.
  • Read one book for the YAB Summer Reading Challenge.
  • Survive the week - it's a super crazy one with marching band and a parade for Toad, swimming lessons for both kids every night, drum lessons, a swim test for Toad's Scout camp - and my husband is out of town. All of this and a full-time job, too! Whoop!

Will you be joining in the RSW fun?

  8. I signed up for the YA Spring Writing Boot Camp and totally crashed and burned right at the very beginning. (Bad timing, I guess.) So, here's to both of us meeting our goals and rocking RSW! :D

  10. Good luck with your summer goals! I also need to keep getting outside more, particularly since I live near a pond. It's so fun watching the goose family and seeing how big the goslings are getting, though it's sad to see they've gone from six to five to now only four.

  16. I intend to do this, and also the reading challenge! Writing: new project, and books/reading I have about 5 books started and need to finish SOMETHING.

  17. Last round of revisions, sounds like you're getting close. Whoohoo and good luck.

  18. Good luck with your goals for the summer! Getting outside is definitely important, says a person who is a hermit haha. I hope I can get outside and enjoy the weather (when it isn't rainy and extremely hot) too :)

  19. Hi, Sara. Isn't grand that summer is finally here? There's a special feeling to getting some writing done outside in the fresh air as opposed to staring out a window from a desk. I hope you have a lot of joy achieving those goals

  20. Ha! I have a story FORMERLY KNOWN AS too that I'm working on this summer. :) Also, I love that you set getting outside as one of your goals. Good luck this week!

  21. I love that you included to get outside as one of your goals! That is so, so important. And your pictures of Minnesota are gorgeous! Good luck, Sara!

  22. I can't wait to write with you this summer! I love these sorts of things--hooray for bringing writers together! Good luck on your goals :)

  23. Holy cow, you have a lot going on this week! Good luck with all your goals and keeping the home fires burning. PS: I love your annual empty shoes photos. :)

  24. Hope you rock your revisions this week! I'm in total editing mode this summer as well. At least until the revisions are *done* (enough). I do kinda love the revising stage though. It's like putting on the extra layers of polish, or like the horrid reality TV sow I inadvertantly watched last night gluing the extra "bling" on it. Except classier.

  25. Wow! Busy week for you! Hope you're able to carve out some time for your goals. =) And I LOVE the title THE MANUSCRIPT FORMERLY KNOWN AS KEYS. Such a winner! I'd totally pick that up!

  26. Time on the lake sounds like a perfect way to recharge for all the hard work I know you're going to kick ass doing! (If you get through this week -- but only one day left now!)
