The Alphabet of Biren

I thought I'd post something Just for Fun tonight.  Katy Upperman posted this today as part of her A-Z Challenge.  If you haven't checked out Katy's blog, you should.  Her posts are thoughtful and funny and she has terrific book recommendations!

Alphabet Survey

A is for age: My chronological age is 39.  Mentally I stopped maturing when I had my first child.  So – Forever 29.
B is for breakfast today: Coffee.  That's the main thing, isn't it?
C is for currently craving: I would love a big bowl of salty popcorn.  Not happening.
D is for dinner tonight: Taco Tuesday, people!
E is for favorite type of exercise: Walking, especially in a lovely location like the Lakewalk in Duluth.

F is for an irrational fear: When I was a kid, I was terrified of the nearby Berning's Mill Dam on the Crow River.  Every summer, it seemed, someone got sucked under while canoeing.  This type of dam, a lowhead dam, is known as a Drowning Machine.  The bridge over the river there was old and very narrow and I had a recurring dream of going over the side in a tan sedan driven by my brother (who was too young to drive).  The dam was dismantled years ago and there's a new bridge as well.
G is for gross food: Herring and lutefisk.  Ick.
H is for hometown: I grew up in a small town called Fletcher.  I currently live in Hanover, Minnesota, the Little City on the Crow, which is a lovely place with three bars, lots of parks, farm fields, and the river, of course.  I'm only about ten miles from where I grew up.  Duluth is the hometown of my heart and where I would someday like to live again.
I is for something important: Nothing is more important than my family: my husband of almost 11 years and our two beautiful, wild, willful children.
J is for current favorite jam: Raspberry Jalapeno.  It's been a favorite for many years.
K is for kids: Two – Toad is almost nine, loves Harry Potter, Legos, books books books, will need braces soon.  Birdy just turned five, loves dolls, art, baking, books, gymnastics, and High School Musical.
L is for current location: My living room.
M is for the most recent way you spent money: I stopped at Target after work tonight for a few essentials and dinner items.
N is for something you need:  Books.
O is for occupation: Mom, wife, author, Communications Manager/Peon.
P is for pet peeve:  It drives me absolutely crazy when my son wipes his fingers on the shoulder of his shirt while he's eating, especially when there is a napkin right next to him.
Q is for a quote:  It is impossible to live without failing at something, unless you live so cautiously that you might as well not have lived at all – in which case, you fail by default. -- JK Rowling
R is for random fact about you: Shortly after I graduated from college, I was out with friends and inadvertently ate a raw jalapeno pepper.  It changed my life.  Since then, I like my food spicy and hot!
S is for favorite healthy snack: Blueberries and almonds.  Or celery with peanut butter.
T is for favorite treat: I've got a sweet tooth for sure, but lately I've been laying off the sweets (or trying to).  Something I'll never say no to: Cherry Nut Dessert, aka Pink Sh*t.

U is for something that makes you unique: Uh, I don't know.  I have only three parathyroid glands and a scar several inches long across my neck to prove it.
V is for favorite vegetable: Tough one. I love all kinds of vegetables.  Today I think I’ll go with asparagus.
W is for today’s workout: I spent twenty minutes at work unloading a couple dozen 30-lb boxes from a FedEx trailer, hauling them about 50 yards into my office, and unloading them off the cart.  It was a great workout!
X is for X-rays you’ve had: Feet.  I’ve broken the left one twice and the right one once.
Y is for yesterday’s highlight: Mondays are gymnastics nights for Birdy.  She's about a year into it and it's amazing how much she's improved.  She can flip all the way around the bar now and she pays more attention to her coaches.
Z is for your time zone: Central.

How about you?  Want to have a little fun with the alphabet?

  1. Accidentally eating a jalapeno had the opposite effect on me - I am not a fan of the spicy!
