Friday Flashbaxx: Dream A Little Dream of Me
April 2000 |
Twelve years ago, my darling Hammer Guy asked me to marry him.
That afternoon I drove from Mankato, where I was in grad school, to the Cities. We had dinner at the Macaroni Grill on 394 and Hopkins Crossroad, right next door to the Shane Company where we had purchased the ring.
"Do you want to go visit your ring?" he asked me.
I was tired and crabby and no, I didn't want to visit the ring. I wanted the ring.
After dinner, he asked me to take the long way home, past Lake Edward in Maple Grove. We pulled into the small lot at Lake Edward to share a romantic moment, but I was tired and crabby and just wanted to get home. So I peeled outta there.
It happened in the garage of our townhome as we sat in my Pontiac Sunbird called Spartacus.
Ella Fitzgerald's "Dream A Little Dream of Me" was on the radio.
It was perfect.
Stars shining bright above you.
Night breezes seem to whisper, 'I love you,'
Birds singing in the sycamore tree.
Dream a little dream of me.
Say nighty-night and kiss me.
Just hold me tight and tell me you'll miss me.
While I'm alone and blue as can be,
Dream a little dream of me.
Stars fading, but I linger on, dear,
Still craving your kiss.
I'm longing to linger 'till dawn, dear,
Just saying this:
Sweet dreams 'till sunbeams find you,
Sweet dreams that leave all worries behind you.
But in your dreams, whatever they be.
Dream a little dream of me.
That is such a sweet story - I love proposal stories! :)
ReplyDeleteAwwww! SO adorable and sweet! And funny how you were all crabby during the evening and I totally can relate to this sentence: "I was tired and crabby and no, I didn't want to visit the ring. I wanted the ring" :D
