RTW: Little Wisps and Threads of Ideas

I love this question. I love to think ahead, to dream, to know that when I'm finished with my current manuscript, and the next one, there will be more. My mind is filled with little wisps and threads of ideas.
In one year, WAITING FOR THE SUN, my current WIP, will be finished, revised, polished, perhaps on a journey to publication. I'm hopeful that the haunted piano/time travel idea will take off and I'll at least have a healthy draft finished. In fact, I'm tempted to try to finish this draft of WFTS so I can take a crack at the piano for NaNo.
I've got another novel idea brewing -- a couple of months ago I had a very detailed dream about a story that I had started (but did not finish) at least ten years ago. I hadn't thought about this story in a very long time, and in fact it was not much more than a few characters, a setting, and an event - a wedding. But my dream worked it all out for me, added a good dose of conflict, a little romance, bam. The story takes place in Door County, Wisconsin, so I'd guess I'd better plan that writing retreat.
Three years from now, perhaps I'll be working on a sequel to WFTS. These characters are such a part of me already, and even though it's not finished, I have a vague idea of how the book ends. There's much more to tell, I'm certain.
I'd like to go back to the one that started it all for me - my first attempt at a YA novel, titled MY LIFE IN A FOG. It's mostly finished, in a very rough draft sort of way, as is that one about the river, which needs some major revisions, too.
Five years from now? Who knows. I just know that no matter what, I will still be writing YA.

Yes, it's all fine and good to have ideas, but the writing of them - pure heaven. Most of the time. :)
DeleteI have story ideas brewing, too, that I can't wait to get to at some point. Your time travel/haunted piano idea sounds fantastic. I've been cooking up a YA historical/time travel novel ever since we got back from Scotland and would really like to just plunge in and write it. Alas, I have other projects already on the go that need attention. Still, don't you just love having these ideas that need to get themselves down on paper? :)

ReplyDeleteThis RTW was quite a good one. I'm a bit of an obsessive planner and always look ahead. I have myself driving, querying and training to be a teacher by this time next year. ^^
It's always fun to dream... can't say I'm much of a planner, though. Good for you on your plans. Sounds great - are you excited for the driving part? :)

ReplyDeleteI love that you have so many ideas floating around your head right now. Mine never pop up until I'm nearing the end of a draft, so who knows what I'll be writing in five years? As long as I'm still writing :)
That's write - as long as you're still writing. There's a great community of writers all over the world who have your back and will be your biggest cheerleaders! :)

ReplyDeleteI'm so lucky that I have a logical, scientific husband who said he would help me make my time travel story more credible. Um, it's fiction? I'm obsessed with it, too. Can't wait to write this thing!
DeleteIt's great that you want to go back and finish the first YA story you attempted. I've shelved quite a few stories over the years and I think now I'd see them in an entirely different light. New ideas are lovely but sometimes old ideas deserve a second look.

ReplyDeleteI'm feeling rather creepy lately. Might be the season - I love Halloween. I used to love it more before I had kids, though. There's something wrong in that statement, I realize.

DeleteI love your creepy, fun picture. Picmonkey is very addictive, isn't it?! How fun that you had a dream that handed you your plot and characters, etc! Sometimes I think that if I think hard enough about a plot problem as I'm falling asleep, I'll dream about it and the dream will give me the answer. Hasn't happened yet. :)
