What's Up Wednesday: Paul McCartney Edition
I'm catching the What's Up Wednesday hot air balloon from the blogs of Jaime Morrow and Erin Funk. Go to Jaime's blog to add your link.
Here's how it works:
It's similar in some respects to the Currently... post, but it's
been whittled down to only four headings to make it quicker and more
manageable on a weekly basis. You're invited to join us if you're
looking for something to blog about, a way to let your blog friends know
what's been going on with you.
Here's how it works:
WHAT'S UP WEDNESDAY
WHAT I'M READING
I'm embarrassed to say that I'm still reading TAKEN by Erin Bowman, which is now several days overdue. Client edits and other stuff took priority over reading.
WHAT I'M WRITING
I made my Ready. Set. Write! goal of sending the first 30 pages of BEAUTIFUL BIRD, SING ON to my critique group by the 19th. It's been fun to get back into that manuscript and stumble upon the really lovely parts in the middle of all the - um - less lovely parts. Hey, that's why they call it a ROUGH draft, people! Embrace the roughage!
Next goal for RSW: the next 30 pages. Easy enough (bwahahahahaha).
WHAT ELSE I'VE BEEN UP TO
June 18 was Sir Paul McCartney's birthday, which of course called for a celebration. This year I didn't have time to bake a cake, so we had ice cream sandwiches and Mama had a cocktail (see below).
WHAT INSPIRES ME RIGHT NOW
Oh, wow. I don't even know where to begin.
Let's see what Paul has to say:
I'm inspired by all of you who want to be paperback writers, who work so hard toward your dreams. And you know what's awesome about you all? You're so supportive of one another. I'm so humbled and grateful to be a part of such a community. So thankful for all the amazing people I've met on my journey to be a paperback writer.
THANK YOU. From the bottom of my heart.
And a special thanks to a few of you who've been incredibly supportive this past week.
So, what's up with you? I missed a few posts last week but plan to make the full rounds this week!
Congrats on reaching your goal and can't wait for August 29th to read your story :D
ReplyDeleteAnd...
Hugs, plenty of them <3
Love that song - I can remember being a kid and thinking that, yes, I DID want to be a paperback writer :)
ReplyDeleteLOVE the cup! And yay for making your goals this week! The writing community IS very supportive - my peeps have been very helpful to me too.
ReplyDeleteI hope you have a wonderful writing week!
Congrats on finishing your goal! Love that cup and that you celebrate Paul McCartney in your house...too cool. And I agree - the writing community is amazing. I'm pretty sure I never would have written a word without them. :-) It was a writing friend who pushed me to write my first novel "even if it sucked" (she said) and she was right...it did! But I would never done it if it weren't for her and I'm always grateful for that push I needed. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love that you celebrate days like McCartney's birthday at your house. What great memories for your kids!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on meeting your goals. I didn't fare as well last week, but I'm ready to tackle them like a pro this week.
Ah, sending pages off is always exciting and frightening! Congrats!!! On meeting your goal. And yay for cocktails!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations with keeping to your writing goals! It's so nice that most writers are supportive of one another, apart from a few outliers who have nothing better to do than spew negativity and dogpile.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on making your writing goal from last week! Your write-in sounds awesome.
ReplyDeleteI'm also super inspired by the writing community. It's seriously the best!
Awesome job on hitting your writing goal this week!!!! And don't worry about not getting to read right now - so many other important things to tackle first. You'll get back to it soon enough. :) And I can't wait to get my paws on BBSO - so keep up the great progress!!
ReplyDeleteAnd you are so right about this awesome writing community. So many wonderful people I never would've met had I not embarked on this often times rocky journey of writing. I'm so glad to have such a great support system and am inspired by all of you, everyday.
Sending BIG hugs, S. xoxo
Rough drafts have their own unique charms. Congratulations on hitting your goals!
ReplyDeleteI'm going to have that song stuck in my head all night :P Paperback wriiiiiteeeeer!
I love that song! Congrats on meeting your writing goals! "Embrace the roughage!" Love it!
ReplyDeleteAwesome job meeting your goals! Yay.
ReplyDeleteYay for reaching your goal! And thanks for some good reminders...I know I really need to learn to "embrace the roughage" o.0
ReplyDeleteAwesome progress with your goals. I hope you get to finish Taken this week, I haven't read it yet but have heard many wonderful things about it.
ReplyDeleteWay to hit your goals! And I had to giggle at "embrace the roughage." Sounds like an ad for Metamucil or something. :)
ReplyDeleteI had to laugh when you said your copy of TAKEN was overdue, because I brought mine back late to the library too. Oops! Don't feel bad! You're not the only one! Good luck with those next 30 pages of your story!
ReplyDeleteI like your idea of editing in 30 page chunks. That's a great way not to get too overwhelmed and actually get some work out there to your CPs. Good idea! And yes, that's exactly why they call it a rough draft!
ReplyDeleteOkay, and Paul McCartney? We're on a bit of a concert kick in my home and we're going to see SPM in 17 days (as my husband declared in his countdown this morning at breakfast). If I don't get as nosebleed (yes, we're that high up, but who cares, right?), I'll try to make sure I get a good photo for you!
And I like to think that overdue books are just a sign of someone who is sooooo devoted to reading that book, they can't possibly bring it back until it's finished....late or not.
That's awesome that you reached your goal this week, Sara! I was successful this past week, too, but this week is kind of starting off a little rocky goal-wise. I've decided not to beat myself up over it, though. And I think "embrace the roughage" should be our new motto. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHave a great week, Sara!
"Embrace the roughage!" Hee hee hee. That could also work if you were trying to encourage someone to eat more plants. :)
ReplyDeleteGood luck getting your 30 pages ready!
