Road Trip Wednesday

From YA Highway:

Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway's contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question that begs to be answered. In the comments, you can hop from destination to destination and get everybody's unique take on the topic.

Today's question: What non-YA character would you love to see star in a YA book as themselves?

I checked out the topic early this morning, mulled it over, and finally have the opportunity to write about it.

If you haven't read Room by Emma Donoghue, you should.  It's disturbing and heart-wrenching and somehow hopeful.  Not an easy read, certainly.

I'd like to see Ma as a young adult, before she was abducted at the age of 19, held captive in an 11x11 storage shed.  We see glimpses of her former life in the narrative, bits and pieces of her childhood.  We eventually meet her parents and brother.  I'm curious about her life before the abduction -- how different it would have been, and quite possibly, how similar.

  1. I'm a fellow campaigner from your YA group! I know I'm late with the intro, but better late than never, right? Can't wait to read more of your posts!

In answer to your post, I would say Miranda Priestly from The Devil Loves Prada... I would love to see how a kid gets to be her!

  2. I haven't read the book, but that sounds like a good choice. That type of trauma dramatically changes someone, it would be good to know where they started.
