Gratituesday #2

This week, I am grateful for air conditioning.

That's temperature, people, not heat index.  Factor in the humidity (gross) and it's unbearable out there.

I like spring.  I like mild temperatures with delightful breezes.  I like fall.  I like a crisp chill in the air.  I do not like "blistering heat," as my son calls it.

Therefore, I am extremely grateful for air conditioning.

Growing up, we had a gigantic, noisy window air conditioner in the dining room that was only turned on in extreme heat situations and at night.  We lived in a rambler, so my parents set up a relay of floor fans to try to move the cold air from the dining room down the hall to the bedrooms.  I loved the feeling of coming inside from the hot, sticky backyard into the frigid dining room.  I spent a lot of really hot afternoons reading in the basement, which was always cool.

Other lovely, cold places I remember from my childhood: the meat market and SuperValu, the grocery store in town.  The library.   The movie theater - oh, there was nothing like escaping the summer heat at the movies.

I married a man with allergies who is always hot.  April 1st rolls around and the air is on, but I love those rare days when we open up the house and let the fragrant spring breeze (full of allergens, apparently) sweep through the house.  My kids are always comfortable, always cool.  They take our central air for granted as they don't know anything different.  They don't know what it is like to find creative ways to keep cool on disgustingly hot days like today.

I try not to take our comfortable home and its appliances for granted, especially as they are beginning to fail one by one.  (Update:  Hammer Guy fixed the water heater!  Wooo hooo!) And today, as the temperatures soar, I'm ever so grateful for our air conditioning.

And coffee.  Of course.

What are you grateful for today?

  1. Wow! Those are some seriously hot temperatures! I wouldn't mind a little of the heat up here (it got cold, windy, and rainy), but maybe not so much 95F heat. That's just craziness. Stay cool and have a very Happy 4th of July! :)

    1. Yes, it's been awful! And I'm working at a rodeo of all things this week (more on that next week). Today the temp hit 100 and we hit the pool! It was perfect and the kids had a great time. As did the adults. :)

  2. Today, I am grateful for rain. It's been months and we finally got gray clouds and raindrops!
