This week's topic:
What yearbook "most" category (also known as superlatives) would your character win?
Interesting question! This would make a good character-building exercise. I really had to think about this one.
I'm going to use Cat and Brad from CLOUD 9. We don't actually see either Cat or Brad in their high school settings because C9 takes place during the summer.
Cat's new to her school and keeps to herself, so she doesn't have many friends and more than likely wouldn't make the list. But that's no fun, so I'll go with:

Brad, on the other hand, has lived in the same town his whole life, gone to school with the same kids, was captain of the hockey team, and according to Cat, "is as much a part of Cloud 9 as the Astro Slide and the spinning milkshake."

Haha these sound like two cool characters! I never was the type to receive these awards in high school. :/ Typical wallflower writer here...
ReplyDeleteI don't believe I received any award like this, either, although my memory is a bit fuzzy. I would have wanted Most Likely to Succeed, of course. Ha.

ReplyDeleteI was a wallflower at school too so I did my best to make sure no-one would consider me for any awards. I wasn't really keen on being part of that because some of the awards we had to make votes for were awful! Post totty, wannabe posh totty, most like to end up insane, in prison... dear god, our yearbook team were brutal!
Seriously? You had an award for posh totty? Ugh. With awards like those, who wants one!

ReplyDeleteI did not receive any such award. I was more of a 'fade into the woodwork' kinda gal in high school. Plus, I switched schools for my last semester of high school and was an even bigger nobody at the school I graduated from (which I was totally okay with). If I had been given a superlative, it would have been something like: Most Likely to End Up Somewhere She Never In a Million Years Imagined. lol :D
So... I take it you Ended Up Somewhere You Never in a Million Years Imagined? :)

"Most Likely to Win Top Chef"--LOL, I like that one! :) We didn't have a yearbook, so the whole superlatives thing was definitely an American thing--not something I knew much about personally. Had we done something like that, I dread to think what I would have been awarded! Nothing positive, I'm sure. If I was lucky, they wouldn't have nominated me for anything. :)
ReplyDeleteI can't recall if we had anything like that or not - the farther I get from those days, the fuzzier those memories get. :) These days I believe schools are a bit more creative than in my day...

ReplyDeleteI probably came closest to the "Next Einstein" award. Though I am proud of my single vote for "Most Athletic" (And no, it did not come from me. But I'm about 50% sure he was being sarcastic).
Those are some interesting awards! Next Einstein - love it! And sarcasm goes a long way....

ReplyDeleteIn high school I was voted Drama Queen which is the superlative that always went to the theatre kids. I was never a lead, but I was a bit overdramatic from time to time. I was also voted Class clown but I had to choose one.

DeleteI made it through high school superlative-free thanks to my inherent geekiness. Only the "cool kids" or our class presidents ever got awarded superatives. Maybe about... ten people out of 300, with some repeats. I was totally okay with that, though!

DeleteI was always really quiet and shy in high school - except around all the other marching band kids. And since it was only the other band kids who knew I existed, I didn't win any superlatives.
ReplyDeleteIt's all good, though, I was having way too much fun to care about my lack of popularity :)
I was in marching band, too. On the Fourth of July I was just thinking about how much I hated playing John Philip Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever." :)
