Ready. Set. Write! Goals

I'm very excited for another summer of writing/revising, twitter writing parties, and connecting with writers with Ready. Set. Write!, once again hosted by Katy Upperman, Alison Miller, Erin Funk, and Jaime Morrow. Find out all about it HERE.

My goals will be similar to what I did during February's Recharge and the YA Buccaneers' Spring Writing Bootcamp - with a twist. It's summer and so I'm going to try to incorporate summer adventures and kids' activities into my goals as well. I'm also going to throw in some health and well-being goals.

My overall goals for the summer are to finally finish those pesky revisions on KEYS, to take steps to improve my health, and to spend a lot of time with my kids.

Here are my goals for Week #1:
  • Write every day. I've been such a slacker the last few weeks.
  • Read every day, even if it's just for 15 minutes before bed.
  • Increase my water intake and decrease my carbs intake (I'll spare you the details).
  • Exercise three times (baby steps, people).
  • Lunch break! Do something writing- or reading-related during my lunch breaks at work.
  • Read to my kids each night before bed.
Starting... now!

I'm looking forward to seeing the goals of the other RSW participants. Last year's RSW was such a blast and I made some really wonderful, lasting connections over twitter and blog posts. How about you? Will you be participating in Ready. Set. Write! this year?

  1. Very good goals! I am thinking similarly but unfortunately will not be able to post them until tonight. Have a great Monday!

  2. I'm right there with you on the water intake increase - I pretty much have to carry around a glass of water to remind myself I need to hydrate.

    Good luck this week!

    1. Thanks! I'm really good about drinking it at work now... but then I get home and I have so many other options!

  3. You got this! I should have put exercise on my goals. I am starting to exercise when my brother and his wife get their gym open. Until then, I am decreasing my food intake so I can continue drinking wine everyday. :) Again, you got this!!!

    1. Opening a gym? That sounds fun (although I've always been intimidated by gyms). Good idea on the wine! :)

  4. Geez, you know what? Maybe I should sign up. It sounds awesome. I recently completed an MG manuscript, all shipped off to my agent. So I've taken the past two weeks to breath and get the house and such ready for summer. My summer goals are to read, spend time with family, and plot & outline in full my next MG or YA - haven't decided which, yet - so I can dig into writing when the kiddos go back to school. Would plotting/outline/brainstorming count as #RSW requirements? Either way, best of luck with your goals!

  5. I hear you on the writing every day thing. That's definitely one of my goals for the summer, too. Actually, from now on. I've been a slacker for months now, so... It would just be wonderful to squeeze writing in every day until it's part of an established routine again. Kind of tricky with so many other things begging for our attention in the summer, but we can both do it! Good luck, Sara! :D

  8. These goals are fabulous, Sara! I'm with you on writing every day, reading every day, and reading with the kiddo(s) every night. Also, I saw a before/after photo of a woman who upped her water intake to 3 liters per day and the results were pretty amazing. I'm sure she got some extra sleep and put on some makeup for the "after" shot, but yeah... I'm inspired. Here's the link, if you're interested: http://paleoeatsandtreats.com/drinking-3-litres-water/ Anyway, best of luck with your goals, lady!

  9. Love that you added reading and health goals. I did reading, but now wishing I'd added one with my son. Though...he doesn't let me forget to read to him. I'll be doing my writing mostly on lunch breaks as well. Good luck this week!!

    1. Thanks, Mandie! My son is older now and slips away to his room unnoticed at night - so it's going to more of a challenge with him! I'll be thinking of you on my lunch breaks! :)

  12. I am in serious need of some healthy goals. I lack in that area it's shameful. *cringe* Good luck with all of them!

  13. write every day is a goal is should add to my list. I've been slacking and writing when I feel like it, or when inspiration hits, but as a writer you know that it can take a while for that to happen. Good luck with your goals!

    1. One of my writing instructors way back when taught us this: Nulla dies sine linea - not a day without a line. I believe it was originally for painters but works well for writers! Good luck with building that new habit!

  15. These sounds fabulous. It's nice to have them open too--just write every day. Read every day. LOVE it. <3 And I also try to read to my kids every night, but it sometimes gets hard when we're busy playing or when it gets late! Definitely important to do, though.
