RTW: Fabulous Summer Soundtrack
Road Trip Wednesday is a ‘Blog Carnival,’ where YA Highway's
contributors post a weekly writing- or reading-related question to write
about on our own blogs. You can hop from destination to destination

This week's topic:
What music has been your summer soundtrack?
Since I became a mom nine years ago, my summer soundtracks have changed. We've moved on from the Wiggles and Sesame Street, They Might Be Giants and the Laurie Berkner Band to Radio Disney and the Phineas and Ferb soundtrack. And while my kids really dig the latest Coldplay album and other... umm, grown up music, this summer it's all High School Musical, much to my son's dismay. We've got HSM2 in the truck and Birdy listens to HSM3 every night while she falls asleep.
Oh, and did I mention that she wants to watch the movies ALL THE TIME?
I have to admit, they've really grown on me. I was skeptical at first - this was one of those Disney trends that I tried to avoid. But as cheesy as the movies are, they tell good stories about good people. The songs are catchy and memorable. And let's face it, who couldn't use a little extra Fabulous?
She wants fabulous, that is her simple request
All things fabulous, bigger and better and best
She needs something inspiring to help her get along
She needs a little fabulous is that so wrong?
Fabulous pool, fabulous splash, fabulous parties, even fabulous trash!
Fabulous fashion, fabulous bling, She’s got to have fabulous ev’rything!
Hope you're all having a fabulous summer! What songs are on your summer soundtrack this year?
Haha, I've never seen these movies but I have a weird soft spot for Disney movies. I don't have kids though, so I have to borrow my nieces so I don't feel weird about watching this stuff :)
ReplyDeleteI've only seen the first one....I couldn't stand the 2nd so I never saw the 3rd. They came out when I was IN High school!!! LOL! Great soundtrack, Sara!
ReplyDeleteI think my kids are just about over HSM. But for a while there they were watching whatever flavor came on Disney Channel, and were even recording it to watch again later. So I know what you're going through. Be encouraged, Sara--there's light at the end of the tunnel! ;D
ReplyDeleteHigh School Musical is something I never watched. I think as it was coming into the world I was getting too old for it. I've tried watching it before but it was too cheesy for me. I still listen to Disney songs though! Classic Disney is too good to turn my back on completely. It was my childhood. =D
ReplyDeleteThis is so great! haha! love this post!
ReplyDeleteI actually watched all the HSM with my also not teenage sis-in-law, we both felt very silly and yet, loved them. That's what guilty pleasures are for though. When I was pregnant I had pregnancy dreams about Zac Efron that my husband found humorous and berated me for.
ReplyDeleteYES!!! High School Musical 2! Sharpay is my favorite. If it was the end of the summer I would have "What Time Is It" playing on repeat. Now I have to go back to school...
ReplyDeleteGreat post. Thanks for sharing
Do your kids listen to a lot of Disney soundtracks? I love those! :D
ReplyDeleteHave a FABULOUS day, Sara!
Hahah, love that your kids dictate what you have to listen to ;) I never actually watched any of the HSM movies but generally I quite like Disney movies!
ReplyDeleteMy summer playlist has been very relaxed, with one favorite song whose lyrics were penned by a YA author :)
My daughter went through a HSM phase too, although she hasn't watched them in forever. I've got all the songs memorized still! Have your kids watched Camp Rock 1 and 2? Those are fun too.
ReplyDeleteI think I've only ever seen the first HSM movie, but I'm not sure. Not sure if I could handle that music stuck in my head, but I suppose there are worse things. Maybe I just need to listen to it more, right? :)
ReplyDeleteAw, this is so cute! I will admit, those songs are DARN catchy!
ReplyDeleteToo funny! I haven't heard the HSM music. Haven't seen the movies. Though I have to say that I am curious now.
ReplyDeleteMy MC has sorta taken over my summer soundtrack. I've been listening to pop for the first time in a LONG time.
