30DSC Catch-Up: Days 13, 14, 15, 16
Wow, bad. This is what happens when I don't write ahead and schedule for publication.
30-Day Song Challenge Day 13: A Song That is a Guilty Pleasure
Okay, I admit, I like a few Selena Gomez songs. There, are you happy? I actually enjoy listening to Radio Disney with my kids. I mean, come on, a dash of All Star Weekend or some Greyson Chance "Unfriend You" -- there's absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying what the kids dig these days.
So my Guilty Pleasure song: Demi Lovato's "Me, Myself, and Time." Dig it.
Day 14: A Song No One Would Expect You to Love
Let's move on from Demi Lovato to Metallica, shall we? I love Metallica, yet most of my friends are surprised to hear that. It all started when I borrowed Master of Puppets on cassette from this kid who had a locker next to me in junior high (we're friends on facebook). I fired a guy once for buying Reload the night before it was released, but that's another story. When I first started dating Hammer Guy, we listened to Reload a lot, especially on the drive the visit his parents in Wisconsin.
My favorite Metallica song is from Reload: "The Unforgiven II."
Day 15: A Song That Describes You
"Lost in My Mind" by The Head and The Heart. This is one of my faves lately. To say that I often get lost in my mind would be an understatement. Lately there are days that pass in a blur, I'm going through the motions but am not really present. I'm lost in my mind. Sometimes it's productive -- lost at Cloud 9, for example, deep in revisions, or lost in the newness and wonder of a new story. Sometimes I'm lost in someone else's imagined world, lost in the pages of an amazing book. Recently I've gotten lost with Lola and the Boy Next Door and have made a return visit to four old friends in Sisterhood Everlasting. Some of my favorite places to get lost are Prince Edward Island and Green Gables with Anne, Deep Valley with Betsy, Longbourn with the Bennet sisters.
Some days I'm more lost than others, but by getting lost I can better appreciate when I've found my way back. "You're already home where you feel love."
Day 16: A Song You Used to Love but Now Hate. Reverse That.
I'm tired of dwelling on the hate. So instead I'm going to go with a song that I hated when I first heard it, but has grown on me:
I really did not like "Pumped Up Kicks" by Foster the People when I first heard it. But after hearing it about 50 times, it started to grow on me. To the point that I would say, huh, I like this song. Foster the People were on Saturday Night Live a couple of weeks ago and I thought to myself, huh, I really like this song now. I almost went so far as to say, I like this band. I've heard "I Would Do Anything For You" and I love that song.
I was hoping that they would sing "I Would Do Anything For You" on SNL for their second song, and you know what? THEY SCREWED UP. They totally ruined it for me.
I have two words for you: Kenny G.
I don't know enough about Foster the People to know if this was some sort of inside joke or what, but Kenny G? All I can think of is crappy renditions of classic Christmas tunes and that horrible version of the horrible song from Titanic, "My Heart Will Go On" that was on Best Buy Radio every other minute. For months.
I'm sorry, Foster the People. It's over. Although I will still listen to "Pumped Up Kicks."
