30DSC Day 17: A Song That You Hear Often on the Radio (With a Twist)
30-Day Song Challenge Day 17: A Song That You Hear Often on the Radio
Okay, once again I am going to amend this topic. How about this: A Song That You Hear Often on the Radio (And Makes You Late for Work Because You Are Sitting in the Parking Lot Listening to It).
I would like to start out by saying that I am not often late for work. In fact, most days I am 10 or 15 minutes early, depending on traffic. Some days traffic is horrendous and I am a few minutes late, and some days, when I'm just pulling into the lot, a song comes on that makes me just a few minutes LATER.
"Yellow" by Coldplay.
If I haven't mentioned it before, Coldplay is one of My Favorite Bands. Parachutes is my favorite Coldplay album. I loved it right from the start. I remember making the drive from Mankato to Maple Grove and back with Parachutes on repeat. "Yellow" was my first Coldplay love.
My first version of CLOUD 9 was called LOOK HOW THEY SHINE, shortened to SHINE (which never would have worked, considering Lauren Myracle's new book, now a big news story thanks to the National Book Award's "miscommunication"). When I was writing and revising CLOUD 9, I listened to Parachutes -- and "Yellow" most of all -- over and over.
Every time I hear it, I am reminded of CLOUD 9 and the hard work that went into it. And I am reminded that I will continue to work hard, to do what it takes, to make this happen.
This song is perfect. Look at the stars, look how they shine for you.
